Mission: To engage the whole community to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS

AIDS Coalition Silicon Valley is a non-profit organization that for many years has mobilized support, particularly financial support, for local HIV/AIDS service organizations. It hosts the Unmask the Mysteries Gala and the Walk for AIDS Silicon Valley, the largest AIDS fundraising events in the South Bay.

Some ACSV’s highlights:

  • Granting over $3 million to local organizations to fight HIV and AIDS.
  • Increasing public awareness of HIV/AIDS issues in the county.
  • Bringing local agencies together to address HIV/AIDS issues.
  • It is the only independent HIV/AIDS organization in the county.

HIV and AIDS in Santa Clara County:

  • Over 4,000 people are known to be infected; about 25% or 1,000 more do not know their status and are responsible for 54% of new infections.
  • Black or African American people comprise 10% of those infected yet only comprise 2% of the total population. Latino populations also see disproportionate statistics.
  • AIDS is the leading cause of death for African American women ages 25-34.

HIV and AIDS on a global scale:

  • According to the latest statistics, more than 40 million people are infected world wide.
  • 1,241,865 people are infected in the United States.
  • 172,298 people are infected in the California.
